In chapter 13, Nolledo takes us through a familiar Manila. Quezon Boulevard is filled with mendicants, worshippers, and crooked cops. We are immersed in the transactions that occur between them outside Quiapo Church. Here, Nolledo shows us what life is like for the residents of Ojos Verdes during a lull in the war. The lull is short-lived as a clash near Manila Bay reminds them of the constant threat of violence during the occupation.
